Why White Plume
Most clients are more familiar with the product name ePASS than our company name White Plume Technologies. In actuality, however, it is the company name that we hope defines us. The White Plume name has a quite interesting history.
The company was founded with a vision of employees defined by their integrity. With that commitment to character in mind, the company's name was derived from the final scene of Edmund Rostand's 1898 play Cyrano de Bergerac. The play's protagonist Cyrano was set apart among men not only by his marked skill with both the pen and the sword, but also by his energy, drive, and character.
Through all endeavors in love and in war, Cyrano strove against his self-proclaimed enemies-Falsehood, Prejudice, Compromise, Cowardice, and Vanity. In the final scene of the play, as Cyrano felt his life slipping away, he told his life's love, Roxanne, that he bore one remaining crown unstained by vice — "Mine own . . . white plume . . ."
True, this poignant literary scene where Cyrano's distinctive white plume embodies the dedication to character which marked him in life and at his death has little to do with information technology in the healthcare industry. Hopefully it does, however, have something to do with the company providing the solution. We hope that from the sales process to implementation to ongoing customer support, our employees hold themselves to the highest standards of professional integrity.
