Go Green: Charge Capture Paperless

physician-laptopBirmingham, AL (April 21, 2011) — White Plume Technologies offers AccelaCAPTURE, an electronic solution to the charge capture process. With AccelaCAPTURE, physicians no longer use a paper encounter form to write in or circle CPT and ICD-9 codes, and the billing staff no longer needs to key charges manually. Instead, physicians can complete an encounter in just a few clicks.

Approximately 75 percent of practices still use paper encounter forms, and many electronic solutions on the market replace the traditional superbill with complex form templates that can be difficult to use by physicians and staff. AccelaCAPTURE is designed to look and function with the simplicity and clarity of a traditional, paper superbill.

White Plume deliberately designed AccelaCAPTURE to operate with a minimum number of clicks  As a result, White Plume helps physicians and staffs transition much easier to electronic charge capture than the significant change needed to move from paper superbills directly to EMRs.

“I can’t imagine going back to keying charges,” confesses Jennifer Petty, Coding Specialist at Austin Heart, P.A. in Austin, TX.

Among the notable advantages of White Plume’s newest version: a section to accumulate historical diagnoses by patient. This information allows the physician to review a log of a patient’s diagnosis history, even if the patient has been under the care of another physician. Additionally, coding feedback can be presented at point of care if the physician desires.

From a business standpoint, this transition eliminates the cost of paper, missed charges, and staff time that could be allocated to another revenue-producing use. Decreases in A/R correlate with decreases in insurance claim denials. The Cincinnati Eye Institute in Cincinnati, OH reported,“In the year since we implemented AccelaCAPTURE we have seen our denial rate decrease by 25 percent,” while the Center for Primary Care in Evans, GA reported, “Denials are down nearly 50 percent and continue to drop.”

Don Menendez, CEO of White Plume Technologies assures the investment in this technology, “You should realize tangible, hard dollar benefits the very first month that you install software.”

As the ICD-10 changeover deadline on October 1, 2013 looms closer, White Plume Technologies is committed to making a difficult transition a seamless one. AccelaCAPTURE will accommodate crosswalks for the differences in ICD-9 and ICD-10 codes so the same superbill a physician sees on September 30, 2013 will also be seen on October 1, 2013.
